You Get to Decide What Success Looks Like

See this content in the original post

You never know someone's true story, the reasons behind the decisions they make...but every now and then you get a peek.

I loved this conversation with Lesley Taylor of No Recipe Required podcast. Especially the meat pie discussion - yum!! I was able to snag the "recipe" and it's linked in the show notes! Ok, food aside, I was also super curious about her journey and what led her to leave a high level banking position to contentedly being "not in charge". It was such a contrast to my previous guests and I love that I get to represent this entire spectrum.

It really truly just comes down to, what makes YOU happy?

Key moments in the conversation include:

  • Plan your finances. Set yourself up for success by having a plan around your finances. Are you downsizing, working part-time, selling property, have savings - Identify your options and know how long your can last.

  • Just start playing. If you want to sell pies or record a podcast - do it.

Start doing things for fun, do things you enjoy and just see where it goes. Pivot if and when it feels right.

  • You get to define what success looks like for you. Your decisions don't have to make sense to other people. Success can look like being happy to not be in charge.

  • There's a cost to emotional labor. Recognize what you want and what's realistic to the season you're in. Know what you're willing to do and be at peace with that.

  • Recognize your privilege. People make decisions for all sorts of reasons and it's not up to us to judge anyone's personal journey. Focus on being grateful for your decisions and opportunities.

Don’t forget to check out the meat pie recipe! I can’t wait to try it. I’ll post to my Instagram stories when I do! :)
